Truck Thursday: The winds of change at work in the 2019 Ram 1500

You can’t see it, taste it or touch it. But, carmakers and car owners know well the significant role that wind plays in the design, performance and ultimate enjoyment of any vehicle.

Aerodynamic drag, fuel economy and unwanted noises – those are just some of the engineering challenges that more than meet their match in the Chrysler Technology Center’s Wind Tunnel.

The all-new 2019 RamTrucks 1500 recently underwent significant pre-production testing in the tunnel, subjected to wind speeds ranging from a steady breeze to a full-blown gale force of more than 140 mph in just a matter of minutes.

The engineering data collected proved invaluable in helping deliver on the Ram 1500’s ‘no compromise’ promise of durability, technology, efficiency and a quieter ride for driver and passenger alike.

Ram 1500 Aerothermal Manager Mark Babich takes us into the tunnel for a look at how wind helped shape and define overall quality in the 2019 Ram 1500.
