Jeep Girls find gold at The Golden Nugget!

Brittany & Ashley Hill -- Back in Las Vegas!

Brittany & Ashley Hill — Back in Las Vegas!

After being inspired by our recent trip to Vegas, we headed back, with the entire family, in our Flame Red Jeep Wrangler!

The drive from Phoenix is quick and easy!  We stopped in Henderson to get Trader Joe’s snacks and headed to downtown Las Vegas. We were booked on Fremont Street, at The Golden Nugget. Downtown has a few one-way streets, but it’s not too difficult to navigate. The weather is perfect this time of year too! Cool days, lots of sunshine, and crisp evenings, the ideal temperatures to cruise in the Wrangler with the top off!

We entered The Golden Nugget by the restaurants and the pool. This is not a typical pool, or even a Vegas pool. This pool has a three-story shark tank in the middle and a water slide.

Sounds calm and relaxing, right? This pool also has cascading water creating a grotto and a cave area for exploring. Oh, and the best part, the three story water slide shoots you right through the shark tank before dropping you into 4 1/2 ft of warm water. We did shoot the slide, after watching excited little fearless kids run the slide, we had to try it!

We walked through the lobby area, dressed with colored glass, Chihuly styled light fixtures, and glass gardens.

The world’s largest gold nugget is also in the lobby area!

For dinner, we headed to The Palms for a glamorous buffet dinner. Unlimited and lavish hot and cold snow crab claws and legs, gulf oysters on the half shell, and shrimp, shrimp, shrimp! This is an international buffet with regional themed steam tables, Chinese, Italian, American, salads, soups, ribs, pizza, and pasta. The new trend is smaller but beautiful dessert offerings. And of course there is ice cream!

After dinner, we jumped in the Wrangler and headed back to The Golden Nugget to hear Kellie Pickler in The Grand. Kellie is a show stopper, her fans love her, the venue is close, small, and intimate. She is a country girl with the sparkle of Las Vegas. After toe tappin’ down home show time fun, we wandered out for the Fremont Street experience. This is not something to miss!

Fremont Street is a five block domed pixel extravaganza. Music, colors, and lights are coordinated to display the history of Rock and Roll. There are live bands on stages, zip lines, and float riders three stories above the crowds. Street level has open doors to casinos, street performers, dancers, Elvis, strongmen…you name it!

We all woke up early to work out in the luxury gym. After a quick workout at The Golden Nugget, we headed to the Mob Museum, which is housed in a former County Building.  The highlights are the Chicago St Valentine’s Day massacre Wall, which was brought to Las Vegas brick by brick, and a machine gun that you can fire. The finale is highlighted by mob movies and the Hollywood fascination.

For lunch, we headed to hearty Binion’s Cafe. They are known for their hamburgers, their corn bread muffins, and their chili beans. We tried to sample a variety of offerings, but the portions are large.

We had always heard about Luv-It Frozen Custard. Located midway between Fremont casinos and the north end of The Strip, we met people in line that had been coming to this institution since junior year high school 1973. Now their kids come here! Ice cream down thru generations. They have vanilla, chocolate, and specialty flavors. There are eye-popping sundae concoctions, and prices are favorable, reasonable, and delicious. Really worth the effort to stop here!

Now it was time for a little more country charm, and Aaron Lewis in The Grand hall of the Golden Nugget. A standing room only show got the entire family hopping and hummin’ to the sounds of the Lewis Guitar.

On our final morning we had champagne brunch offered at The Buffet at The Golden Nugget. This restaurant is located on the second floor overlooking the shark tank and swimming pool area. Everything you ever could wish for was available and included on this menu. There were stations with carved roasted pork, turkey, beef and sausage…all for breakfast! There were lox and a cream cheese mountain, bagels, waffle station, fresh made to order omelets, carved fruits, hand dipped ice cream, pastry, bakery items, cookies, pies, eggs Benedict, pizza, salads, cereals, hot and cold. Oh, and did I mention shrimp, shrimp, shrimp? Yup, we were in hog heaven…we struck GOLD!

Las Vegas always has so much to offer!!

So Cha-Ching! Cha-Ching! Until next time!!

We’ll see you out there!!

Happy Holidays!!
