Truck Thursday: 2020 Jeep® Gladiator uses strong, lightweight materials for improved fuel economy and durability

The 2020 Jeep® Gladiator uses lightweight, high-strength advanced materials to boost fuel economy without compromising the traditional Jeep qualities of durability, capability and versatility.

These advanced materials can be found from bumper to bumper on the all-new midsize truck.

2020 Jeep® Gladiator Rubicon

The Gladiator features a body-on-frame design that uses advanced materials and engineering to be lightweight, yet stiff and durable, with an all-new lightweight, high-strength steel frame.

Lightweight, high-strength aluminum can also be found throughout the Gladiator.

2020 Jeep® Gladiator Rubicon and Gladiator Overland

The doors are made from lightweight, high-strength aluminum, along with the hinges, hood, fenders and windshield frame. At the rear of the Gladiator, the tailgate is also made from aluminum.

Other ways the Jeep engineering team looked to manage weight included using hollow track and stabilizer bars, aluminum engine mounts and steering gear.

These innovations help curtail weight and boost fuel economy.

Hello from the Motor City! I’m Edward Cardenas and I’m multimedia editor for Stellantis. As a lifelong Detroiter, I have been surrounded by the automotive industry. I’ve had members of my immediate and extended family work in the industry. I’ve covered it as a journalist and advocated for it as a communications professional. I have also experienced the thrills of the industry while riding in a race car at nearly 200 miles per hour. Having this breadth of experience, I look forward to drawing upon my experiences to bring a wide range of stories, photos and videos about Chrysler, FIAT and Alfa Romeo to Stellantis Digital Media. When I’m not covering my brands, I’m spending time with my wife and two boys.
